A pandemic era walk through New York City
In Spring 2020, Suzzy Roche and her daughter Lucy Wainwright Roche headed down to Nashville to record their third album together, I can still hear you. They were a week into recording when the country shut down due to COVID-19 pandemic. Suzzy and Lucy quickly returned to their homes in Manhattan and Brooklyn, respectively, for lockdown. They kept working on the album, which includes this song. “Although this wasn’t the plan we originally made, and although it was trying at times,” Lucy says of the sessions, “we made it work and I actually think this is my favorite of our duo recordings.”
From Mick Macve’s site : Only Truth is Music:
“I Think I Am A Soul” explores the concept of a soul. Can a soul live on after death? What is a wise old soul? Some souls overflow with love. “The soul that I am begs for mercy. The soul that I am loves the night sky and the moon’s face and the silent singing stars”. As with every song, the instrumentation is understated and exists to highlight the beauty of the two voices, whether singing solo or complementing each other wonderfully well.
